Recap RoboCup 2024

After the success of 2013, the RoboCup Federation once again trusted us to organize this special event. We could never have achieved this without the support of our main sponsors: Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, Provincie Noord-Brabant, Gemeente Eindhoven, ASML, and VDL Groep. Additionally, the organizing team and volunteers ensured that everything ran smoothly. But of course, this event would have been nothing without the enthusiastic participants of the Junior League and Major League and their autonomous robots. For five days, they put a smile on the faces of thousands of visitors and made RoboCup 2024 an unforgettable world championship. To us, they are all winners, but we would like to congratulate the champions in particular. Their innovation, perseverance and team spirit are an inspiration to all of us. We look forward to seeing them and new talents shine at the RoboCup 2025 in Salvador, Brazil. Thank you for an amazing experience, and see you in the future of robotics!🤖

Recap fourth day

Temperatures above 30 degrees and yet people choose en masse to spend their day at the RoboCup event. The large number of visitors shows that technology is no longer seen as boring, but as challenging and exciting. How cool is it to have a robot move autonomously because of your programming work? The young participants clearly have fun with their robots and radiate an infectious passion for the technical education they are following. In a rapidly changing world, innovation is indispensable. They are the engineers of the future who will transform the world with their innovative ideas.

Today at RoboCup day 4:

Transport Sunday Morning

In collaboration with VDL, free buses will be provided on Sunday morning from Eindhoven Central to the RoboCup venue. The buses will depart between 07:30 and 09:00. This service is free for participants because public transport does not run that early. The buses will be identifiable by RoboCup signs.

Recap third day

Day 3 was marked by matches across all leagues. The excitement for the finals is starting to build, especially for the juniors. Tomorrow, they will be transformed into superteams. Only in soccer can the best team play against a major league team. Despite the tropical temperatures, many families found their way to the event. Besides the competitions, there is plenty of tech entertainment for the kids. Lego creations are brought to life by programmable mini-computers, and drones move like a swarm of bees. Participating yourself is, of course, even more fun. Workshops where children can design a floating city, build their own soft robot, or fix electronics were very popular. RoboCup can easily be compared to a day at the NEMO Science Museum.

Recap second day

On this second day, the competitions started for both the Junior League and the Major League. The soccer fields were occupied by robots of all shapes and sizes, from the small, lightning-fast, and agile Small Size League robots to the endearing humanoid Naos of the Standard Platform League. Besides all this soccer spectacle, the robots performed household tasks in simulated living rooms and provided assistance in disaster scenarios. And to show that nothing is too crazy for a robot, junior teams took the stage with their costumed robots to entertain the audience with theater or dance.

Recap first day

While the Junior League participants arrived today, the Major League teams were playing there last practice matches. Also, there was the opening ceremony by Claude Sammut, President of the RoboCup Federation, Robert-Jan Smits President of Eindhoven University of Technology and Deputy Major Maes van Lanschot. From the hands of the latter Peter van Lith, founder of the Dutch RobocupJunior Tournament, was appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. Great moments all around, but the real showstopper on stage was our mascot, Robin. Tomorrow it’s finally game time!
